Motorola Expanded Lineup To Razr Family
Motorola introduced several new additions to its ever-popular Razr family of handsets late Monday.
The Schaumburg, Ill., telecommunications equipment maker has revived its brand through the exploding popularity of its ultra-thin Razr cellular phone. The company has since been quick to capitalize on the success, releasing a variety of models and related phones sharing the same metallic and thin look. The strategy has helped the No. 2 handset maker inch closer to market leader Nokia.
The new models include an even thinner phone in Krzr, a sliding phone called Rizr. Both phones will be available in the second half.
Motorola also unveiled three models that work with third-generation, or 3G, wireless technologies. Two of them, Razr XX and Razr Maxx, work with a wireless standard called high-speed downlink packet access, or HSDPA, which Cingular Wireless will eventually adopt down the line. The third, Slvr L7c, will run on evolution-data optimized, or EV-DO, technology, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless uses.
The 3G compatible phones will hit the market in the fourth quarter.
